My Story: Competitive Swimmer to Certified Practising Nutritionist

For most of my life, I was a competitive swimmer. Sport gave me structure, purpose, and a sense of identity. But at the time, I did not fully realise how much nutrition influences performance, recovery, and overall wellbeing.
When I retired from competitive swimming, the change hit me hard. My metabolism shifted, my daily training routine disappeared, and I felt as though I had lost a part of myself. The habits and structure I had relied on for years no longer applied.
For me, it sparked the question: how could I fuel my body in this new chapter, maintain my health, and feel strong again? That curiosity grew into passion, ultimately leading me to study nutrition and dietetic medicine. I wanted to understand not just the science of food, but how it could support long-term health for myself and for others navigating life changes.
My Philosophy as a Nutritionist
I see myself as a health detective. Every client has a unique story, and my role is to consider the full picture, including physical, emotional, social, and lifestyle factors, to uncover the root cause of health concerns.
I am deeply committed to evidence-based practice and patient-centred care. Health is not simply the absence of illness. As the World Health Organisation defines it, health is a dynamic state of physical, emotional, and social wellbeing. This means nutrition can never be one-size-fits-all.
For example: An athlete transitioning out of sport may need guidance on managing metabolism changes while maintaining strength and energy. A woman navigating menopause may benefit from strategies that support bone health, manage hormonal changes, and sustain energy. Someone living with diabetes requires personalised strategies to manage blood sugar alongside their broader lifestyle needs. By considering all aspects of a person’s life, I help clients create plans that are practical, sustainable, and empowering.
